What is Lakewood Park doing to make a difference in the world?

Local Ministry

Church Worship Services and Programs

It is our desire to be a welcoming church so that people know they belong in God’s house as a part of His family. That’s why we work hard to provide excellence in our Guest Services, children’s ministries, youth programs and adult Bible studies. That’s why we design worship services that are engaging, relevant and true to God’s Word. And that’s why we encourage our people to be warm, friendly and helpful to everyone who is a guest at one of our services or programs.

Counseling Center

We also offer a Biblical Counseling Center for those who need help in dealing with the various issues that occur in our lives. This center is run by Dr. Bill Moore and is available to anyone in the church or in the community. Appointments can be made through Jeannie Johnson at 925-2006, ext. 126.

Community Service Projects

Our Adult Bible Study groups are also engaged in Community Service projects throughout the area. And, one day a year is dedicated as a church wide community service day. These projects range from clean up to remodeling to small construction and service opportunities to just visiting people who are lonely and meeting basic needs.

Local Compassion Ministries

Lakewood Park is involved with local compassion ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, Shelter Ministries, the Good Samaritan Food Bank and Dekalb Council on Pregnancy.

Global Ministry

Lakewood Park supports Missionaries around the world. You can view a complete list with email addresses and other pertinent information by clicking on the link. Our basic philosophy is to support missionaries who are from our geographical region and are committed to building a support base of churches in this area. We focus primarily on missions that are involved with church planting and/or leadership development – especially the development of national leadership within that particular country. We also target missionaries who are intent on building national partnerships to multiply their ministry efforts.

NATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS are a priority. We are currently working with national pastors and churches in Russia, India and Africa. We are committed to this approach because it allows us to support church planting and leadership development through nationals who already know the language and the culture. They can also serve at a cost much less than what is required for an American family.

Africa

We have two families in Africa. The Coiners are serving in Uganda and the Ritters are in Ethiopia. Both families work with Rafiki which organizes, builds and operates orphanages for children who have been left without parents because of the AIDS epidemic. We are currently in the process of developing partnerships with local churches in those regions.

Russia

We are involved in a consortium of churches in the Ft Wayne area to support Russian Pastors/Church Planters in the Ivanovo region. This strategy includes direct support for church leaders as well as training through seminary courses taught by Pastors in our churches who travel to Russia. It also involves a Christmas child project each year to bring hope and happiness to children in the area as a means of connecting families to the local church.

India

We are working in partnership with the New Testament Baptist Church Association of Northeast India. This partnership focuses on the development of orphanages, training church leaders, and planting churches throughout the region – including Bhutan, Nepal, Burma, China and possibly Cambodia.

Short Term Mission Experiences

Lakewood Park is committed to providing learning and growth opportunities for our people so that we can better fulfill our role in the world as the church of Jesus Christ. One of the most effective ways to do this is through sending short term mission teams to various fields around the world. We send teams of young people and adults on a rotating basis so we can be more aware of and more involved in God’s mission to reach the world. Over the past few years we have sent teams to Ukraine, Brazil and India. We are currently planning on sending another youth team to Brazil in the summer of 2007 and an adult team to Uganda in January, 2008. Mission Projects

Lakewood Park has also been involved with funding various projects overseas. These are done through special offerings. In recent years we have helped to build an orphanage, a dining hall and kitchen for an orphanage, a school building, a dormitory and a couple of church buildings.
